Taman Ratu ( Malay Rice) |

This is one of the top spots for local Malay rice. During lunch hour, this place is absolutely packed with people of all races. Reason – delicious food at extremely reasonable prices, much lower than what you get in town. My favourite dishes are the curry sotong (cuttlefish), deep fried chicken (crunchy skin and succulent meat), kacang bottle (four angle bean) salad and of course the salted egg. Also when you have the time, a must try item is the fried ikan terubok with stuffed chilli paste. This fish is really delicious, but it has plenty of fine bones. Patience is rewarded as the meat is very fine and sweet tasting.

Lily's Vegetarian Kitchen (East & West Vegetarian) |

Lily’s restaurant offers a very different type of vegetarian menu. They have the local delicacies like curry noodles, rice steamed in lotus leaves, koay teow th’ng (flat rice noodles in soup), chicken rice, nasi lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk with curry accompaniments) and even satay. All the mock meat stuff is of course made from gluten and other vegetarian ingredients. They too offer a range of western food like spaghetti and croissants. My favourite is actually the jumbo croissant with rending (curry)! Once a month, Lily’s have a buffet lunch served on the 1st floor. If you like vegetarian food that imitates the meat versions, this is the place to visit!

Summer Garden (Mixed Asian & Western Food) |

If you are looking for a relaxed eating place with terrific environment, Summer Garden is the place to be. They have beautifully landscaped garden, very natural décor, green luscious plants everywhere, and water flowing down their glass walls. They serve a variety of food – Chinese, Western, Japanese, local Malaysian, all totally delicious and very reasonably prices. Amongst my favourites are the Japanese set lunch, nasi lemak, and laksa. The nasi lemak comes with curry chicken on the side (and you can ask for more papadum). They are very innovative, and have a special flair in their food presentation. They have also have a wide array of cakes to chose from, which goes very well their specialty coffee. This is definitely a highly recommended place!

The Thai people seem to love sausages and meat balls. You can find an assortment of sausages in different meats, and in various sauces. The price is usually around 10baht a stick, if you get it from the street side hawker. They also like deep fried food, with all sorts of meat patties and fish cakes. Chose a variety and cost me around one USD.
