Sweet Tamarine (Noodles & Chinese Food) |

Sweet Tamarine has a range of noodles that are just as delicious. We tried the “sang min” (crispy fried noodles) with king sized prawns, fried “la mien” (home made noodles) with meat and seafood, and that went very well with the scallops and fried pork ribs with garlic. All together a very enjoyable meal, especially when we topped it up with deep fried ice-cream!

Aki pancake is probably the most famous pancake stall in Penang. They are the ones that started the trend of having special fillings for their pancakes – chicken mayonnaise, seafood, peanut butter, kaya, meat floss, chocolate, and plenty more. For me, I prefer the original pancake with either banana or the sweet corn filling. They also offer the special open faced thin crust variety that they sell in packets of 6 pieces. Definitely something delicious to finish your meal, especially with a cup of “kopi-o kau” (thick black local coffee).

Brown Garden & Service Road (Banana Leaf Rice) |

Aiyoyo! This is the most mouth watering place to have your banana leaf rice. Instead of plates, your meal will be served on a banana leaf. The rice comes with 4 side servings of vegetable, beans and chutney (pickles) and of course the pampadum (crackers). You can choose to either have chicken, mutton or fish to go with your rice. And the best way to eat banana leaf rice - with your hands. Order a mango lassi (yoghurt drink) to go with your meal. Their main outlet is in Brown Garden in Gelugor but I mostly go to the Service Road outlet as it is in town.
