Sri Ananda Bahwah (Indian Food) Saturday, August 25, 2007
Fancy some roti naan (Indian bread baked in tandoori claypot)? The place to head to is Sri Ananda Bahwan. They have a whole range of naan breads – garlic, butter, cheese, kashmiri (nuts & raisins) that goes extremely well with tandoori chicken or if you prefer, mutton or vegetarian curry. Each roti naan set comes with mint sauce, light salad, and curry. Depending on the time of the day, they have other specialities like roti canai and banana leaf price. Their dishes are mainly Northern Indian, therefore very flavourful but mild as they use plenty of spice and little chilli in their cooking. Suitable for both the local Malaysian and foreign palate.

Brown Garden & Service Road (Banana Leaf Rice) Thursday, December 28, 2006
Aiyoyo! This is the most mouth watering place to have your banana leaf rice. Instead of plates, your meal will be served on a banana leaf. The rice comes with 4 side servings of vegetable, beans and chutney (pickles) and of course the pampadum (crackers). You can choose to either have chicken, mutton or fish to go with your rice. And the best way to eat banana leaf rice - with your hands. Order a mango lassi (yoghurt drink) to go with your meal. Their main outlet is in Brown Garden in Gelugor but I mostly go to the Service Road outlet as it is in town.

Swatow Lane (Mee Goreng Sultan) Sunday, December 24, 2006
This famous Mee Sultan (Spicy Fried Noodles) is very tasty. You can either have it dry (fried) or wet (with thick gravy). They are very generous with their sotong (cuttle-fish). I always like mine with plenty of freshly squeezed lime.

Kumar Restaurant (Roti Naan & Tandoori) Saturday, December 23, 2006
This is one of the most popular outlet in Tanah Rata especially amongst the foreign travellers. They have a genuine tandoori pot outside the restaurant and all the naan bread is prepared fresh. You can have cheese, garlic, butter, kashmiri, and all different sorts of naan. Their standard set comes with a quarter piece of tandoori chicken, naan bread and even briyani rice. Their mutton curry which is kept heated on the stove is a must try!
